A Sweet Treat: {Peach Freezer Jam}

Photo Credit: Michelle @Sweet Treats & Inspiration

The peaches on our peach tree are starting to ripen, and it's one of my favorite times of the year!  It's time to make freezer jam, cobblers, smoothies, and so much more!  Freezer jam is so easy to make, and takes no time at all -- it's definitely a great way to go, since you can avoid the canning process, if you're short on time, or just looking for ways to simplify things.  It's also a great gift to share with family, friends, and neighbors.

The following recipe can be found at Christy Jordan's Southern Plate, where Christy gives a step-by-step tutorial.

Peach Freezer Jam

  • 2 lbs peaches (enough to make 3 cups of mashed peaches)
  • 4 1/2 C Sugar
  • 1 Box Sure Jell (can use other brand but check their instructions)
  • 2 T Lemon Juice
Peel and slice peaches. Mash up with potato masher or fork. They will be lumpy but that is okay. Measure out sugar in large bowl. Measure three cups of peaches and add to sugar. Add lemon juice. Stir well and sit aside so sugar can dissolve.
In sauce pot, place 3/4 C Water. Add fruit pectin (Sure Jell). Bring to a boil while stirring constantly. Boil for one minute. Pour into fruit mixture. Stir well until all sugar is dissolved.
Pour into clean 8 ounce jars (or plastic containers of choice) and leave 1 inch head space (instructions on package say leave 1/2 inch but most recipes say leave one so I go with tradition here). Using a damp paper towel, wipe around rim and sides of jar to remove any residue. Place lids on jars and let sit at room temperature for twenty four hours. After that time, place in freezer until ready to use. Store opened jars you are using in the fridge.

NOTE:  Freezer jam cannot be stored at room temperature.

  1. Michelle, this sounds delicious!! And your peach trees are beautiful! Like little coral colored gems :) We have a peach tree in our yard but either heavy wind take them or the squirrels! However when they do live long enough to get to our table they are SO SWEET! It's just one small tree so my mom usually will make peach pies, sometimes even mixing blueberries in with them! Now you got me in the mood for peaches, lol! We've been buying them at the market but they've been hard and not very sweet :( Fruits and veggies always taste better when you grow them yourself.

    Happy Jamming!
    Blessings,
    Amanda

  2. Hello Amanda! So nice to see you! :)

I lIke how you described the peaches as "little coral colored gems!" :)

We have more peaches this year than we've had before, but they're also smaller than usual. They've also had a little bit of a bitter taste, but still very good. :)

The peach/blueberry pies that your mom makes sound delicious -- I love blueberries, too! :)

Sorry, I haven't been timely in getting back to your last message that you sent me on goodreads. I hate giving excuses, but for some reason summer seems to be busier than usual -- between out of town company, VBS, and three camping trips in two months (not to mention the kids using my laptop more than I do, lol).

Anyway, please know that I treasure every word, and your friendship. I've saved your email in my contacts as well; thank you for sharing it with me. :)

    Have a blessed weekend!
    Michelle

    1. Don't give it a second thought, my friend! You're a wife and a mother and it's summer vacation! I totally understand. I'm neither a wife nor a mother, yet life always seems so full of things to do!

Hoping the rest of your summer is exciting and full of fun memories with your family! Feel free to email me anytime :)

      Blessings,
      Amanda

  3. OHHH! I never thought about doing peach jam! We do lots of peach cobbler around here--yummmmmmm, and I do strawberry jam (of which I could eat an entire jar and loaf of bread myself!), so I may just have to try this:)

    1. Oh, I think you'd really love it, Susan! I have a peach cobbler recipe here on my blog that is so yummy!! I can't wait to make one soon! : )

Do you do the freezer strawberry jam, or the canned kind?

      Have a great weekend!

  4. That jam looks absolutely heavenly as do all those peaches!! My husband would just love this jam. I love the freezer method also because I'm still gun-shy of canning and no matter how many times I have friends show me how, I'm still to nervous to try :D
